U.S House Likely to Vote Again on Farm Bill June 22. Protect and Strengthen SNAP: Turn Up the Heat During Memorial Day Recess Week
Efforts by anti-hunger advocates and others proved critical to ensuring the House rejected the Farm Bill (H.R. 2) on May 18, but the House likely will schedule a second vote on June 22. Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts (R-KS) hopes to mark up the Senate Farm Bill in committee in June. Advocates should weigh in during the recess week (May 26–June 3) to urge Representatives and Senators to make sure the Farm Bill does not take food off the table for those in need or increase hunger. Let Members of Congress know that groups representing children, women, veterans, seniors, civil rights, people with disabilities, educators, faith-based leaders, and others want Congress to protect and strengthen SNAP
